Meet our Publishers
When Merle and Gail Taylor contacted Barbara Floyd about publishing The Country Register after realizing the amazing effectiveness of ads they placed in the Pennsylvania edition for the gift shop they then owned, they never dreamed they would end up publishing 4 papers covering 6 states. In 1998 they began publishing The Country Register of Maryland and found a warm welcome for the publication with which most shop owners were already familiar. They brought their “customer service is job one” attitude from previous business ventures to publishing The Country Register and most of their original advertisers still advertise with them every issue.
In 2002, they began also publishing The Country Register of Delaware/New Jersey after the existing publisher there stopped printing and shops began calling the Taylors in Maryland to ask when they would again have “their” Country Register back. In 2004 they became publishers of The Country Register of Indiana and The Country Register of North Carolina/South Carolina, both editions which had a spotty history of publication and on again, off again papers. The Taylors believed a consistent image for these key areas was important to the entire brand across the country and that the publications could benefit from their tenaciousness. Both papers continue to grow and the advertisers appreciate their full-time commitment to helping their businesses grow.
There are frequently pictures of their grandchildren within each paper along with wonderful recipes, articles about our great advertisers, various collectible lines and helpful hints and ideas all by writers who work exclusively for The Country Register. They have a loyal following of readers who take day trips or longer visits to areas they have read about on the pages of “their” County Register as the Taylors strive to ensure each publication has the indentity of the local area.
