This scrappy quilt is the perfect project to complete over a length of time and to use up small pieces from your fabric stash. A new block will be presented each month (12 months) right here on The Country Register website with finishing directions to be supplies with the last block. By the end of the year's time, you’ll have a completed quilt just right for using in your home or giving as a gift. Use the photo (at left) to help you decide on fabric selections. Have fun making this cozy country quilt!

Block #2 • Bow-Tie Block

The fabric requirements for one block are listed with the instructions for each of the different blocks, so be sure to check the number of blocks required by the pattern before you start. Since this is a scrap quilt, you can choose to use different fabric combinations for each block you make or you may want to make multiples of each combination. Most of all, be sure to have fun with this quilt—it is time to play with fabric combinations and add a touch of whimsy to your work! Read all instructions before beginning and use ¼”—wide seams throughout. Read Cutting Strips & Pieces  prior to cutting fabric.

Fabric Requirements
Using a variety of lights, mediums, and darks, cut the following for each of twenty blocks:

Fabric A (Bow Tie)
•Two 2 1/2” squares
•Two 1 1/2” squares

Fabric B (Background)
•Two 2 1/2” squares


Making the Blocks
Make a total of twenty blocks.

1) Refer to Quick Corner Triangle directions. For each block, sew one 1 1/2” Fabric A square to two 2 1/2” Fabric B squares. Press.
2) Using 1/4” seams, sew two 2 1/2” Fabric A squares to two corner triangle units from step 1. Press.
3) Sew two units from step 2 together. Press. Bow Tie block will now measure 4 1/2” square.
