The Country Register of Tennessee & Kentucky is published every two months. The time seems to fly by between issues.

For those who prefer to read on-line we are now publishing the complete paper here for you on our web site and will leave the previous issue on as well. How often we have been called and someone has given their paper away or misplaced it and needed the name or location of a shop, a tea room or wanted to know where there was a paper close to them. Here it is.

The print edition will still be available as usual in each advertising shop and other select rack locations. Some people will always and forever prefer to sit down in a cozy chair with a cup of tea and read through the paper edition page by page. Others are more apt to go on-line.  We are striving to be available for you the reader and you the advertising business owner or event organizer.

Spotlight on a Tennessee Business

General Morgan Inn, Greeneville, TN

Visitors to Greeneville quickly understand why this lush foothill community is considered home to one of Northeast Tennessee’s most beautiful historic districts. Resting in the center of this downtown jewel, which has been noted for its stunning architecture and dynamic history, lies Morgan Square, a collection of beautifully renovated and restored historic buildings that now house some of Greeneville’s most unique tourist destinations.

As a member of the National Trust Historic Hotels of America, the General Morgan Inn serves as the heart of Morgan Square. Overnight guests of the inn are treated to upscale care in a charming setting as the inn maintains a balance of today’s creature comforts, such as private spa services and wireless internet, with historic architecture and attentive, personalized service from the staff.

In addition to providing accommodations to visitors, the Inn also houses Greeneville’s premiere fine and family dining restaurant, Brumley’s. Named in honor of the family who owned and operated the hotel during much of the 1900s, Brumley’s has been a long standing tradition for downtown dining. Recently the restaurant launched a full service breakfast featuring traditional hot breakfast favorites. When asked what the house specialty is, the resounding answer is Brumley’s Pecan Chicken Salad for lunch and Brumley’s exquisite Baked Sea Bass for dinner.

“We want visitors to Greeneville to have an authentic experience of our community, to absorb some of its quirky history, hear some of its more colorful stories, and dine in a unique restaurant that offers its own seasonal flavor,” said Ginger Nidiffer, Director of Guest Services. “Day visitors to the Historic District have an open invitation to come into the hotel and take a self-guided tour, or a guided tour upon availability. The level of restoration and care that has been taken to keep the General Morgan Inn vibrant shouldn’t be missed.”

The General Morgan Inn also houses the Mason House Art Gallery, which features shows by local and regional artists, including recent student shows by Greeneville High School and the community’s elementary schools. Greeneville is blessed to have a healthy community of artists. Within Morgan Square, a guest could easily shop for fine art at James-Ben Studio & Gallery or Artspace 4, then turn a corner and find an impressive collection of unique crafts at A Gathering of Friends Craft Mall on Depot Street.  continued on next column

"The codfish lays ten thousand eggs,
The homely hen lays one.
The codfish never cackles
To tell you when she's done.
And so we scorn the codfish,
While the humble hen we prize.
Which only goes to show you
That it pays to advertise."

General Morgan Inn continued

“We’re very proud of our retail options in Morgan Square,” said Julia Beach, Marketing Director. Morgan Square’s newest retail shop, InnStyle Boutique, offers women’s boutique apparel and gifts, and is another example of the kind of diverse retail that Morgan Square offers visitors. “Greeneville has a broad spectrum of activities and attractions, and we want visitors to take advantage of all of them, especially these unique downtown attractions. A visit to Greeneville without a visit to the Historic District, especially Morgan Square, is only half of a visit to Greeneville.”

For more information about Morgan Square or the General Morgan Inn, please visit www.generalmorganinn.com or contact the inn directly at 423.787.1000.
