2009-10 Issue
The Country Register of Oregon is published every two months. The time seems to fly by between issues.
For those who prefer to read on-line we are now publishing the complete paper here for you on our web site and will leave back issues on as well. How often we have been called and someone has given their paper away or misplaced it and needed the name or location of a shop, a tea room or wanted to know where there was a paper close to them.
The print edition will still be available as usual in each advertising shop and other select rack locations. Some people will always and forever prefer to sit down in a cozy chair with a cup of tea and read through the paper edition page by page. The younger generations are more apt to go on-line and so we hope to just broaden our readership and bring more customers to the shops because of this extra exposure.

Our cover this issue features a selection of fabrics designed by Karen Stephens, owner of Speckled Hen Quilts in Wilsonville. Karen is wearing a new hat these days as she adds fabric designer to her list of accomplishments. Starting her own business in 1989, Karen has now celebrated 20 years and is moving forward as a shop owner, pattern designer and, now, fabric designer.
The first line, ‘Apron Strings,’ arrives in early 2010; the second line, ‘Mama’s Favorites,’ is set to deliver in April/May; and a third line, ‘Lots of Dots,’ is already in the works. All three lines are produced by Andover Fabrics, Inc.
Karen’s shop, Speckled Hen Quilts, was a featured Top Ten Quilt Shop in the Fall 2007 issue of Quilt Sampler magazine. Twice a year—January (Winter Winds) and August (Lazy Days of August)—Karen puts together a shop hop. For each of these events, she creates a new quilt pattern. Classes, workshops and retreats are planned throughout the year for this busy shop owner. Check out her website at www.speckledhenquilts.net to see more of her designs and a look at her shop!
